Connecting Students Together
Many students agree that study groups are essential to student life as they allow for better homework and project results, while also providing teamwork plus communication skills between everyone. As a result, I decided to focus on an app that eases the creation of study groups among students here at UC Berkeley.
HOW MIGHT WE EASE THE CREATION OF STUDY GROUPS AMONG STUDENTS AT UC BERKELEY?
App Creation
I chose to move forward with this idea through an app design that allows students to easily create or join study groups within friends or classmates. Thus, the name Studiously.
I started with 3 basic concepts to focus on: 1. User registration, 2. Connecting with others, 3. Integration with university. Through these concepts, students are able to easily improve their studies with other students simultaneously.
Low-Fi Prototype:
Through my low-fi prototype, I managed to design and tie in all my key concepts altogether. For instance, the sign-in page allow users to sign in through the CalNet page, while authenticating them. After, they are quickly connected to the Homepage where they can access practically every subpage of the app: Explore, Messages, Study Group Page, etc. Many apps existing today influenced my current design: Instagram, Discord, etc.
Mid-Fi Prototype:
I further enhanced my low-fi prototype by designing it roughly through Figma. Some changes were made according to feedback as a sidebar was needed for users to easily access other pages better. Fonts were also finalized for this step: Outfit and Spline Sans.
Hi-Fi Prototype:
Finally, I tied together my previous rough designs by adding color, shadow, and icons to make the app more alive. I decided to keep the color a simple beige to emphasize simplicity and seriousness as it is a study app. Much of the prototyping was also refined to allow users to click through the app smoothly and with animated transitions. However, the icons add a pop of color that allow users to better identify where they decide to navigate throughout the app.
